its "Drugs Don't Play Here'' educational campaign at a 9 a.m. press conference today.

In conjunction with Alcohol Awareness Month, the BCDS, in partnership with the National Drug Commission and the CADA Prevention Resource Centre, will be releasing the first of a series of brochures addressing the effects of drug use.

The brochures, aimed at young Bermudians -- in particular young athletes -- will focus on the psychological, physical and emotional effects of drug use as well as the effects on sport, the family and the community.

The first brochure addresses the impact on alcohol use by teens. Other brochures will address the effects of marijuana, cocaine, herion and tobacco.

In addition the BCDS is announcing the release of a second series of brochures that addresses issues more specific to drug-free sport in Bermuda. The first is on the drug-testing procedures and highlights the penalties for drug use and drug-use related infractions.

Other brochures will include the parents' role in maintaining a drug-free sport environment, a resource guide for coaches and teachers and a review of the reinstatement and appeals process for athletes who test positive.
