Kamal Izzat Edwards told Magistrate Archibald Warner that he was beat up and then arrested on July 27 after violating a previous court order to stay away from his wife.

Mr. Warner smirked and said: "You got beat up and arrested. I think I know the problem -- they didn't beat you hard enough.'' Edwards, of Parsonage Lane, said where he went to his estranged wife's home with no intentions of starting trouble but an argument turned physical. Police reports say a neighbour assisted Edward's wife and split up the fight.

Edwards explained he has enrolled himself in a drug programme and promised the court he would stay away from his wife in the future.

Mr. Warner fined Edwards $800 and gave him a 12-month suspended sentence. If Edwards commits any offence in the next year, the sentence will activate and he will face prison.
