Bermuda College, BF&M forge new relationship

ERROR RG P4 26.9.1997 A story in yesterday's Business section incorrectly stated that Bermuda Fire & Marine recently formed an educational partnership with the Bermuda College. It should have read BF&M. The insurance group made a one-time donation of $10,000 which will go toward the purchase of computers for the Student Services Division. BF&M will also annually sponsor two students in the Business Studies Programme at $1,500 each.

The Bermuda College and the BF&M (Bermuda Fire & Marine) Insurance Group recently formed an "educational partnership''.

This new relationship will enable the two organisations to provide benefits to those students pursuing careers within the business community, particularly insurance. The pair will strive to fulfil several goals that they believe will continue to "extend over the foreseeable future''.

The strengthening of College resources, the bonding of both faculties and the supporting of students are among chief objectives.

BF&M will also award annual $1500 scholarships to two students studying the Business Administration course. Winners of the scholarships will become enrolled in an "adoption'' scheme within the BF&M family. Their progress will be closely monitored by the Human Resources department as they undergo a mentoring programme.

The programme will expose the students to various departments as well as different processes which are conducted throughout the insurance business.

They will also be given the opportunity to partake in staff development courses and will receive top priority for summer jobs and other part-time employment openings. BF&M is to grant the College an annual donation of $10,000 for the enhancement of facilities.
