In the Senate's debate of the Throne Speech, Environment spokesman Sen.

Wendell Hollis revealed that 1,120 objections have been submitted to the Plan which protects the remaining open space in Bermuda and splits the Island into development and non-development zones This number far exceeds the last development Plan ten years ago which prompted a total of 541 objections.

But Sen. Hollis said 124 of the objections have been provisionally resolved and 60 percent are expected to be resolved before the Plan is submitted to Parliament for final confirmation.

However, close to 400 objections will still need to be solved by a public tribunal before the matter is submitted for final confirmation.

The Planning Department has 18 months from the time the Plan was published -- June -- to deal with objections.
