Bermudiana redevelopment phase gets green light
redevelop the Bermudiana Hotel site.
At their September 11 meeting the Development Applications Board was asked to consider phase one of the $150 million plan dealing with office development.
The Bermuda Financial Centre has already received outline permission for phase one and the DAB gave final approval for the offices.
Overall the plan includes office space, a hotel and luxury homes.
Approval of phase one is conditional upon: BFCL providing for a safe flow of traffic and ensuring a 90-foot sight line for traffic accessing the public road from either direction from a point six feet back from the edge of the carriageway; Ensuring against the discharge of water run-off on to public or estate roads or any other property by providing for the disposal of storm water within the site; Providing parking and manouevring space for 220 cars and 256 cycles; To protect visual integrity of the neighbourhood through comprehensive, phased landscaping; Providing for left-turn lanes at the corner of Gorham Road and Woodbourne Avenue, and Woodbourne Avenue and Pitt's Bay Road.
Meanwhile, in other matters, the DAB granted approval to Donna Richold to begin building renovations at Astwood Hall, 49 Church Street, Hamilton, for a nursery school, conditional upon the number of students not exceeding 45.
The DAB also rejected an application by the New Testament Church of God to add-on to their sanctuary at 59 Dundonald Street and to provide two-level seating for 1,200 people. The Board felt the project failed to provide a ten-foot set back from the Dundonald Street road allowance.
