Bermuds soccer team praised for victory
over Antigua in the World Cup preliminary match last weekend.
The only disappointment, Sen. Trevor Woolridge (PLP) said, was that more people couldn't travel to Antigua to see the game.
"Certainly (coach) Mr. Gary Darrell and the team itself deserve our congratulations for a job well done.'' Sen. Woolridge and others asked that condolences be sent to the family of the late Mr. Nicholas (Nick) DeRosa. Mr. DeRosa, a former Policeman and taxi driver, was a consummate gentleman and had done tremendous work for the Island's hotel industry as he drove his taxi, primarily out of the Stonington Beach Hotel, and worked as a security officer at Ariel Sands.
He also noted the "tremendous effort'' of the captain and crew of the tug Faithful and the captain and Bermudian pilot aboard the cruise ship Horizon to avert a tragedy in St. George's Harbour on Thursday.
Sen. Ira Philip (PLP) had a cryptic message for the Editor of this newspaper: Congratulations or condolences, depending on whether or not he prints a sequel to the "100 Years Ago'' column on Tuesday.
It described a fracas in an onion field in which several prominent citizens were left seriously injured.
