out this Thursday when Princess Anne accepts a certificate proclaiming the Old Town a United Nations World Heritage site.

The Princess Royal will receive the certificate from Ambassador Stanton, the United Kingdom permanent delegate to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

She will then hand the certificate to Premier Jennifer Smith at a ceremony which begins at 9.30 a.m. at King's Square, St. George's.

Mr. Hayward said: "This will be a memorable and truly historic occasion for the people of St. George's and indeed all of Bermuda.

"I hope that as many people as possible come to the town to witness this unique ceremony first-hand.'' Princess Anne will also unveil the official World Heritage plaque at the entrance to Tiger Bay.

And she will hand out commemorative certificates to members of the World Heritage application committee.

Frank Lawrie, the director of heritage policy at Historic Scotland who acted as a consultant to St. George's bid team, and Governor Thorold Masefield will also be present.

It will be a busy week for the Old Town with the annual Peppercorn Ceremony taking place tomorrow.

The ceremony marks the annual rent payment by the Freemason's Lodge 200 of one peppercorn for the State House in the East End town.
