The reappointment by Governor Thorold Masefield is to last "until further notice'', stated a recent newspaper advertisement.

The move is provided for in the National Drug Commission Act 1993 to prevent a vacancy in the NDC's Board of Directors while a replacement is sought.

Mr. Brock stepped down from the post on January 12 after more than three years, reportedly to spend more time with his three grandchildren and to focus his attention on two other chairmanships.

He is the chairman of the Bermuda Monetary Authority and has revealed that he expects to be appointed chairman of another organisation in April, which he has yet to name.

Yesterday he said: "There is a provision in the Act that states the Minister can ask a person who has tendered their resignation to stay on until such a time as a replacement is found.

"This is instead of having a vacancy on the Board and applies to any position. I am staying on only until such a time as a replacement is appointed.'' The appointment process requires consultation between the Premier and the Opposition Leader so is expected to take some time, said Mr. Brock.

He took over as the head of the NDC from Alastair Macdonald on July 21, 1994.
