James Ramsay McDonald Parris, a member of Government's Marine Resources Board, was apprehended with his brother Noel Archibald Parris on May 2.

James Parris, 62, of Harrington Sound Road, Smith's. and Noel Parris, 65, of North Shore Road, Pembroke, were represented by attorney Saul Froomkin.

Both brothers pleaded not guilty to two counts of using illegal fishing gear on February 14 and a trial date was set for early November.

James Parris was appointed to Government's Marine Resources Board in 1999.

As he has not been convicted of any crime, no action has been taken to remove him from his position.

The brothers' boat Outrage was confiscated and will remain in Police hands until the investigation and/or possible court cases are concluded.

Fish pots were made illegal in 1990 and a recent survey in Environment Minister Arthur Hodgson's Green Paper on Marine Resources and the Fishing Industry in Bermuda, stated that four in five of the population were opposed to their reintroduction.
