The court heard that James Woods, of 12 Middle Terrace Pembroke, had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood on June 17.

Police responded to an accident on Church Street shortly after 2 a.m. that day and saw Woods next to his car, Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said.

When the officers approached Woods they noticed that he smelled strongly of alcohol and his speech was slurred.

Woods was taken to Hamilton Police Station where it was found he had 189 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Woods yesterday apologised for his actions and begged Mr. Francis for leniency, saying he had a wife and four children to support.

Duty counsel Miss Victoria Pearman also noted that Chief Justice the Hon. Mr.

Austin Ward had recently allowed a truck driver to continue to drive trucks after he was convicted for impaired driving.

After hearing this, Mr. Francis amended his previous ruling of disqualification from all vehicles for a year.

He told Woods he was banned from driving all vehicles for a year, except buses, and he ordered him to pay a $450 fine.
