Trevor Lindsey was incorrectly identified as a ZBM cameraman in Wednesday's paper. He is a former employee of ZBM.

A ZBM cameraman yesterday received a suspended prison sentence for possessing more than $1,000 worth of cocaine intended for supply.

Trevor Lindsey, 35, of Sleepy Hallow Drive, Warwick, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to possessing cocaine with intent to supply and possessing cannabis on July 11 in Pembroke.

Prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said Lindsey's van was stopped by Police around 10.20 p.m. on Marsh Folly Road for having a defective light.

The officers detected the smell of cannabis on Lindsey who appeared nervous at the time.

A search uncovered 26 individually wrapped rocks of cocaine weighing 5.5 grams with a purity of 92 percent. Police also found 0.3 grams of cannabis.

Lindsey was previously convicted for possessing cocaine in October, 1991 and January, 1989. He was fined $300 for the 1991 conviction and sent to prison for six months for the 1989 offence.

Lawyer Mark Pettingill, representing Lindsey, urged Senior Magistrate Will Francis to take into account his client's guilty plea and argued that he was not a drug dealer.

He said Lindsey bought a week's supply of drugs rather than having to go back and forth to a dealer to get them.

"A crack addict does not go giving away 26 rocks,'' he added.

Mr. Pettingill urged Mr. Francis to hand down a suspended prison sentence, saying Lindsey had taken steps to beat his addiction.

"He is a reformed addict,'' he said. "He's on the road to success. It would be wrong to order a period of incarceration.'' Mr. Francis said there was a "very strong public policy for this court to take the rehabilitated course where it is warranted''.

Noting the social inquiry report and the numerous letters from "reputable'' people, Mr. Francis handed down a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, for possessing the cocaine with intent for supply. And he ordered Lindsey to two years probation for possessing the cannabis.
