Cannabis cost tourist $2,600 fine
yesterday after he was caught carrying 25.1 grams of cannabis.
George Innocenti of New Jersey pleaded guilty to importing and possessing cannabis, cigarette papers and torn matches.
Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, told the court that on July 15 at 11.55 p.m.
Innocenti arrived at the Civil Air Terminal where he was searched by Customs officers.
" A plastic bag containing plant material was found in Innocenti's underwear.
Two packets of cigarette papers and torn matches were also found in his pocket,'' said Insp. Duffy.
When asked by Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis if he had anything to say, Innocenti replied: "I brought it down for personal use. That's about what I'd use for the time I was here.'' Mr. Francis fined Innocenti $1000 for importing cannabis, $100 for possessing drug equipment and $1500 for possessing cannabis.
