The car had been parked along Dundonald Street, Hamilton when the incident occurred on Monday evening.

The man said the black leather bag contained cash and credit cards and the thief also took a black canvass bag which contained personal items.

In light of the report, Police reminded the public not to leave items such as handbags unattended in vehicles.

A Police spokesman said even though the bags might not contain items of value they can attract the attention of thieves who will not be aware of this.
