Sinclair Simmons, 48, of Parliament Street, Pembroke, violated his parole after being released on licence on a two-and-a-half-year sentence imposed for breaking and entering in January 1998.

Simmons pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to four counts of stealing from Gateway Systems, Woodbourne Chemist, Gorham's, and the Body Shop.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis heard that Simmons entered the Gateway store on Queen Street on July 22 and walked out with a Canon Visualizer camera worth $4,759 from a floor display.

Crown counsel Larry Mussenden said on August 5, a customer observed Simmons put two perfume testers in a bag at the Body Shop on Reid Street.

Later that day he was picked up by Police who found the perfume testers worth $28 and a Windemere hair cutting equipment package worth $16 from the Woodbourne Chemist.

And on June 18, Gorham's store security watched Simmons, from an observation area, taking the price labels from a large tool box and leaving the building.

When he was confronted, Mr. Mussenden said, Simmons ran away, leaving his cycle and the $200 tool box.

Simmons was arrested on August 10 and later said: "At the time, I was going through a change and that is why I confessed.'' He later led Police to some of the goods, including the camera which Mr.

Mussenden said was sold to a Court Street business for $100. He did not name the store.

Mr. Francis sentenced Simmons to two 12-month terms in prison for stealing the camera and the tool box.

Simmons was also slapped with two six-month sentences for stealing from Woodbourne Chemist and the Body Shop.

The sentences will run concurrently.
