Leon Fough, 48, of Coral Hill Lane, was stopped by Police on Court Street on the evening of January 28 at the centre of a crowd. As the crowd dispersed Fough was seen to put something in his jacket pocket before walking away.

A search of the suspect revealed a brown paper twist containing 0.52 grams of cannabis.

When asked what the twist contained Fough replied: "It's just a little bit of herb.'' Fough, who has previous convictions for similar offences, admitted possessing the drug.

Before being sentenced he said: "I am very sorry about this. I have been working very hard.'' Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined Fough $250 for possession and an additional $1,000 because the incident occurred within 100 metres of a nursery School.

TWO FINED FOR PIPES CTS Two fined for pipes Possessing drug equipment landed a Pembroke woman and a Warwick man in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Fredricka Fox Givens, 28, of Middle Town Drive, was stopped by Police at the junction of Princess and Angle Streets on the evening of November 24 last year.

A search revealed a metal pipe containing traces of crack cocaine.

In a separate incident on November 6, 35-year-old Victor Trott was searched at Hamilton Police Station after being arrested in connection with another incident.

Officers found Trott was carrying a pipe in his back pocket which again revealed traces of cocaine.

Givens told the court she had been drug free for the last five months and was now working as a welder. Trott, of Khyber Pass, also explained that he was trying to kick his drug habit and was hoping to enrol in the Harbour Light rehabilitation programme.

NEWSPAPERS STOLEN CTS CRM Newspapers stolen Two copies of the Mid-Ocean News and three Bermuda Sun newspapers landed a pensioner in the Police cells for a morning.

Thomas Henry Place, 65, pleaded guilty last week to stealing the newspapers, worth $3.50, from a bundle outside the Supermart on Front Street just before 5 a.m.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis gave Place, of Curving Avenue in Pembroke, a conditional discharge for 12 months.
