Sgt. John Dale said that the home, on Barry Road, was broken into sometime before noon. The occupant noticed the money was missing when she came home for lunch.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old schoolgirl had her knapsack snatched from a bench at the Washington Street bus terminal while she went into a nearby store. The bag contained a pair of white Avis running shoes, bus tickets, a yellow hair brush and other personal items.

The Bermuda Telephone Co. reported the theft of a public Cedico Card Phone, bolted to the wall in an alcove outside its Somerset offices. Police said it was apparently taken between 5 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The telephone will be difficult for the thief to use, Sgt. Dale explained, as it requires a special terminal to be wired into the system.
