six months when he appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Andrew Daniel Smith, 32, pleaded guilty to stealing three cheques, forging and uttering two of them, and obtaining $120 cash from the A-1 supermarket in Paget through false pretences.

The court heard Smith was last year given a six month prison sentence suspended for two years for a similar offence.

Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy said the offences occurred between February 10 and March 16. He said Smith had shown no remorse when arrested.

Smith told the court his father had given him permission to forge his cheques and had allowed the money to be taken out of his account with the Bank of Butterfield.

However, he said his father was unable to be in court to verify this. And Insp. Duffy said as far as he knew, Smith's father had told him he wanted the matter to be dealt with in court.

"I am concerned that with all that cheque forging you were in court for last time you are doing the same thing again,'' Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis told Smith.

Mr. Francis activated the six month suspended prison sentence and handed down an additional two month prison sentence to run concurrently.

DATE SET FOR `FATAL ATTRACTION' TRIAL CTS Date set for `Fatal attraction' trial A trial date was set in Magistrates' Court yesterday for a 26-year-old Pembroke man charged with smashing into a woman's house and assaulting her three times.

Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy, asking for an early trial date, said: "This is the male side of (the movie) Fatal Attraction.

"Allegedly, this man has consistently assaulted the young lady and one of the offences is said to have occurred on a public bus.'' He charged: "She is in perpetual fear of him -- in public and in her own home.'' Dennis Wilson pleaded not guilty to assaulting the woman and causing her bodily harm on December 5 and April 12, and assaulting a male friend of hers on April 15 and causing him bodily harm.

He pleaded guilty to assaulting and causing the woman bodily harm on February 27, entering her house on the same date without lawful excuse, wilfully destroying her glass door and fly screen on April 15, causing $220 worth of damage, and entering her house without lawful excuse on the same date.

Wilson was remanded in custody until May 15 when he will appear for trial in Magistrates' Court.

MAN LEFT HOTEL WITHOUT PAYING CTS Man left hotel without paying Failing to pay a $900 hotel bill cost a 30-year-old local man a $1,000 fine when he appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Wayne Crane of Pembroke pleaded guilty to obtaining credit from the Palmetto Bay Hotel between January 19 and 23 through false pretences.

Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy said Crane stayed at the Flatts hotel for five nights in January and left without paying.

Insp. Duffy said he gave the hotel his real name but a false address. However, Police eventually found him and he readily admitted the offence.

Crane told the court he had nowhere to live at the time and had just been laid off. He added his family took his money out of his account without telling him.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Crane $1,000 of which $947.27 will go towards paying back the hotel.

POLICE WARNING TFC Police warning Police yesterday reminded motorists that it was against the law to not give way to emergency vehicles.

Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale said he had received reports that motorists were ignoring Police cars attending emergencies, and were not stopping despite the sounding of sirens and flashing lights.

"Police officers on emergency runs, as we call them, are trained in a particular system of car control and can adapt to various hazards,'' he said.

"However if motorists don't give way a certain amount of danger can result.''
