Church plan turned down
land within a key green belt in the heart of Paget.
The board rejected Anglican Church plans to create five new housing lots along Chapel Road which it described as part of a strategically important tract of land.
The board also invoked a now-standard clause that rejects the application on the grounds that it would be "premature and contrary to the public interest at the present time''.
The clause is an allusion to the upcoming Development Plan which will impose new zonings and new regulations on land use.
The church's Chapel Road application was for five additional lots on the land bounded by Middle Road on the south and by Chapel Road along the west. The application, which originally called for eight lots, is on 62/3 acres of land.
It comprises medium density, open space, arable and woodland reserve zonings.
