Coming US Consul won't tip his hand
yesterday keeping a diplomatic silence.
Vin Gupta, an executive with American Business Information in Omaha, Nebraska, is reported to be in line to replace Robert Farmer.
But yesterday a spokeswoman for American Business Information said: "Mr.
Gupta is unable to speak until anything has been confirmed.'' Mr. Gupta was linked to the US Consul job by the "In the Loop'' gossip column in last Friday's Washington Post .
The paper described the job as "one of the biggest plums'', adding it came with a mansion, beach front and membership of all golf clubs.
Columnist Al Kamen said he received his information from reliable "folks in the administration''.
Mr. Farmer said the "In the Loop'' column was generally fairly accurate.
He added, however, the White House could neither confirm nor deny the report of Mr. Gupta's appointment.
Mr. Farmer is to leave Bermuda this summer after the State Department ruled he should serve for three years. His three years will be completed on August 24.
