The new collection service will see recyclable goods picked up on Tuesday and Friday evenings.

The collection programme has been launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Works and Engineering.

The Ministry's recycling programme began in earnest this year with the creation of recycling drop-off points around the Island and the opening of a recycling plant at Devon Springs Road in Devonshire.

About 30 Hamilton businesses and Government departments are separating newspapers, white paper, cans, glasses and corrugated cardboard for recycling.

"These businesses will be among the first to receive the recyclable collection service,'' a Government press release said yesterday.

"Businesses wishing to be added to the collection route should contact Chriss Addams at the Corporation of Hamilton at 292-1234.
