Cox clears the air

Cox on Friday night informed the House of assembly of two matters she felt might have caused some concern in the community.

Ms Cox noted that she as the Minister responsible for Prisons had authority to allow a prison inmate out if there was no security risk. As such, she pointed out that she had granted approval for a prisoner to be allowed out to attend a graduation.

Ms Cox also pointed out that she had given some leeway to a local hotel that did not renew its liquor licence on time. She noted that the particular hotel had made every effort to rectify the situation and said she was satisfied the hotel was not trying to dodge the law.

"I would urge all those who need liquor licences to check them on a timely basis,'' she said.

Ms Cox in bringing the two matters before House members on Friday night said she felt she was making a preemptive move.
