A Police spokesman said: "Effective Sunday, September 7, 1997, members of the motoring public are advised that Police will be cracking down on those drivers of trucks and other vehicles who operate such vehicles on Sundays without possessing the proper Sunday permit.''.

The spokesman noted this was an offence and Police would be checking to ensure that this "all-too-common practice is discouraged''.
