Crash driver admits he caused student's death

Ming pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving on the opening day of his trial yesterday. He also confessed to driving while disqualified on the evening of June 8, 1997, when his cycle collided with another bike being ridden by Zeita Renee Matthew near the Coral Beach Club in Paget.

Ms Matthew, a former Berkeley Institute student, was travelling east on South Shore Road when the collision with Ming and his 22-year-old passenger took place.

Ms Matthew, who suffered serious head injuries in the smash, finally succumbed to her injuries after a two-week fight for life. Nobody else was seriously injured in the accident.

Sentencing was adjourned until January 26.
