The National Drug Commission stepped up its war on drugs by donating $10,000 to Crime Stoppers Bermuda.

With 90 percent of reported crime directly related to drugs, NDC deputy chairman Maxwell Roberts said he believed the Crime Stoppers programme had created an atmosphere for Bermudians to resist the damage that substance abuse inflicted on the community.

Crime Stoppers chairman McNeill Warner added: "We are grateful to the National Drug Commission for their continued support of our efforts.

"Crime Stoppers and the NDC are effectively partners in the fight against crime in Bermuda.'' Crime Stoppers has been in existence for 18 months and has accepted donations from various local donors.

The money is used to provide anonymous rewards to members of the public whose information leads to arrest and conviction.
