satellite antenna at its Cable Hill site in Devonshire.

There are currently two satellite dishes on the site.

The largest is used for telecommunication to 13 countries.

The smaller one is used for telecommunication to the US and the UK. Neither of these dishes can withstand extremely high winds. According to Planning documents, during such periods the dishes are kept tipped up and are put out of commission.

The proposed dish is for telecommunication to the West Indies. It will be used as a back-up cable for the one already linking Bermuda and the West Indies.

This dish will be able to withstand winds of up to 180 mph.

The dish is to be located on the eastern side of the site near the agricultural fields, which form part of Penhurst Farm.

The company said the proposal to upgrade an existing telecommunication facility and the siting and scale of the structure will not adversely affect the environment of neighbouring residential areas.
