Deadline looms for voter registration
included in the 1997/1998 Parliamentary Register.
While more than 33,000 people have registered, Parliamentary Registrar Marlene Christopher said some 6,000 still had not. And she reminded eligible voters that the registration period ends on May 30 when the Draft Register will be withdrawn. Late registrations will then be added to the list to form the new Parliamentary Register.
Mrs. Christopher pointed out that there were always some people who thought they had registered, only to find out via the Draft Register that they had not.
"If that is the case they should send in a registration form immediately,'' she said.
Mrs. Christopher said those who have registered to check the Draft Register to make sure they were listed correctly.
Draft Registers are on display at the General Post Office in Hamilton, all sub post offices throughout the parishes, at the public library in Hamilton, at all Police stations and at the Parliamentary Registrar's office.
The final Register will be published on June 15.
