A Paget resident returned home during his lunch hour to find that intruders had entered his Tankfield Lane property during the morning and removed a $100 bill from a night table.

Two bottles of red wine, a number of grapefruit, a set of batteries and a flashlight were also taken from a Middle Road, Southampton, home between noon and 5 p.m.

And a Southampton woman received a rude awakening in the early hours of Monday morning when she was disturbed by a burgler attempting to enter her home.

After hearing noises on the balcony of her West Avenue property around 4 a.m., the owner saw an intruder trying to open a door and several windows. The would-be thief fled after an outside light was switched on.

HOMELESS MAN FELL ASLEEP IN HOUSE CTS Homeless man fell asleep in house A homeless man found asleep in the basement of a woman's property was yesterday given a 12-month conditional discharge.

David Masters, aged 38, wandered into the property while drunk, Sgt. Rex Osborne, prosecuting, told Magistrates' Court.

The woman alerted the Police in the early hours of November 21, he added.

Masters, who is currently on probation, pleaded guilty to being in the property without lawful excuse.

ARREST ORDERED FOR NO-SHOW ACCUSED CTS Arrest ordered for no-show accused A magistrate ordered the arrest of a Pembroke man after he failed to show up for his trial yesterday.

Ronald Edward Paynter, 39, of Parsons Road, has pleaded not guilty to mistreating a dog on February 22 in Pembroke.

When he did not show for his trial in Magistrates' Court, the Wor. Mrs.

MAN JAILED FOR STEALING $1,040 CTS Man jailed for stealing $1,000 A Pembroke man was jailed for five months yesterday after refusing to pay back the $1,040 he stole.

Antoine Dillas, 27, of Crane Lane, told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis he did not have a job.

Dillas admitted stealing the cash from Richard Robinson on April 10.

Sgt. Rex Osborne, prosecuting, said the money was in a bank bag in Robinson's garage at Cobbs Hill Road, Paget.

Robinson alerted the Police after finding the bag missing.

Sgt. Osborne said Dillas told Police: "I am sorry. I was under the influence, and I wish to pay him back.''
