Harbour Radio said it received the distress signal from the Bermuda-registered Chiquita Joy while the ship was going through rough seas.

The captain of the vessel later reported that it was a false alarm and the ship was carrying on to Panama.

Harbour Radio said rough seas had loosened the beacon from the bracket, causing it to signal.
