The Yule trees arrived aboard the 383-foot Oleander , the largest container ship serving Bermuda.

Each of the 23 containers held between 100 and 350 trees from Canada and the United States.

Also aboard the Oleander was a 58-ton crane for the new incinerator. Two cars, a 27-foot boat, and new Belco transformers were also imported in addition to a total of 191 containers, 44 of them refrigerated.

Today from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the public may tour the Portuguese tall ship Sagres , which is docked at No. 5 berth on Front Street in Hamilton. The historic ship, which was used during the Second World War, sails tomorrow morning for Lisbon.

As well as its usual military cargo for the US Naval Air Station, the Bold Venture unloaded commercial cargo in Hamilton on Monday before returning to her base at Norfolk, Virginia.

The Bold Venture recently began commercial service out of Norfolk and this was her third such trip.

A US Navy salvage ship, the USS Grapple , arrived yesterday at Ordnance Island. The 255-foot ship was in port to pick crew for her return to Little Creek base in Norfolk.

Grapple's most notable accomplishment was the 58-day towing of three vessels from Virginia to the Persian Gulf in 1987.

The Danish vessel Mette Kosan arrived at the Ferry Reach oil docks yesterday afternoon, carrying a load of liquid propane gas for Shell.

On Tuesday, the Somers Isles arrived at Hamilton from her base at Fernandina Beach, Florida, with 71 containers, 11 of them refrigerated. She also unloaded 12 fibreglass tanks, one transformer, and two bundles of pipe before sailing today for Florida. The agents were Meyer Agencies. Meyer also reported the Bermuda Islander arriving on Monday from Salem, New Jersey with 65 containers, four of them refrigerated. She left on Tuesday.

Among three vessels Meyer expects on Saturday is the Canadian-registered Northern Ranger .

The 234-foot passenger ship is carrying scientists and bird watchers on a four-month voyage that will include stops in Florida, Panama, and Antarctica.

The ship is due to stop in St. George's for the day, but will return in April on her return voyage.

PULLING IN -- The Portuguese Navy's sail training ship Sagres is silhoutted shortly before berthing in Hamilton Harbour on Tuesday. The 295-foot ship, which was helped into position by a US Navy tug, will remain in Bermuda until tomorrow.
