yesterday afternoon.

Bermuda Fire Service spokesman Lt. Jon Thompson said the Fire Service and Police responded to the call at 3.15 p.m. on Devon Springs Road, Devonshire near St. Brendan's Hospital.

When they arrived they could not find the dog, Lt. Thompson said. A further search revealed a person nearby holding a puppy.

The dog, described as a "terrier mix'', was examined but no burns could be found. The puppy was taken to Endsmeet Animal Hospital in Devonshire where a veterinarian found it have singed hair on the hind quarter of its body and tail. It also had mild to moderate blistering in the groin area.

Lt. Thompson said while Police and Fire were alerted to the matter by a "very upset'' woman, they did not know whether or not the incident was an accident or deliberate.
