$200 in Magistrates' Court on Friday.

The court heard that Zachary Nesbitt's dogs were left at a Loyal Hill, Devonshire residence which he vacated earlier this year.

Crown counsel Miss Sharon Kenny said the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Parks received a written complaint about the dogs on July 14.

The Department, she said, removed the unlicensed dogs and put them in a kennel.

Nesbitt was contacted the next day and made an appointment with the Department.

But, Miss Kenny said, he failed to show up. He was later told, by letter, if he did not turn up by August 11, the dogs would be removed and put to sleep.

Miss Kenny said it cost Government more than $800 for the time the dogs were kept at the kennel.

But she offered no evidence on a former charge of dog abandonment.

Nesbitt was fined $100 for each unlicensed dog.
