Carlos Sousa, of North Shore, Hamilton Parish, admitted driving while impaired on May 13.

The court heard that a Police car responded to a two-vehicle accident on Front Street and saw a car had struck the back of another Police car at a stop light.

Sousa was the driver of that car and the Police officers noticed he appeared drunk.

He was taken to Hamilton Police Station where a breath analysis showed he had 227 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

Sousa's supervisor from the Princess told the court that Sousa, 43, was required to work until late at night and asked that he be allowed to keep an auxiliary cycle licence but Senior Magistrate Will Francis refused.
