Edward King handed down a fine of $750 to a man who admitted possession of 5.9 grams of cannabis.

Wolda Gardner, 22, of Barrack Street, St. George's, was charged with the possession of the drug when Police arrested and searched him on the night of October 29, 2000, outside Number One Shed in Hamilton.

He evaded court until Police arrested him on May 5, 2001, for an unrelated obstruction charge.

The prosecution claimed that at that time he both violently resisted arrest and escaped lawful custody.

Yesterday he was charged with all four offences.

Mr. King fined Gardner $750 for possession.

The maximum fine for this offence is $1,000.

Gardner then entered a plea of not guilty on the obstruction charge and a trial date was set for May 22.

He also pleaded not guilty to the charges of violently resisting arrest and escaping lawful custody on May 5.

The trial for those charges was set for July.
