New camp rules unveiled He said: "These are designed to help protect our campgrounds and to eliminate problems with regard to illegal campers and discarded equipment...'' Now campers -- in addition to the $4.50 a night permit charge -- will have to pay a $50 deposit, refundable after a site inspection by Park Rangers.

Mr. Lister said: "In order to allow the Park Rangers time to carry out these site inspections at the end of each occupancy, sites will be vacant for 24 hours between bookings.'' He added a tagging system will be reinstated to allow Rangers to identify legitimate campers, as well as identify individuals who have set up their tents on the wrong site by mistake.

Camping is allowed at Chaplin Bay in Warwick, Coney Island in Hamilton Parish and Ferry Point in St. George's. Park Department permits for the season went on sale yesterday.

Mr. Lister said the new schemes were necessary because of the amount of trash left behind by careless campers.

He explained that seven truckloads of trash had been removed from Chaplin Bay at the end of last year's season.

He said the total cost, including manpower, had been $3,570 for all three sites.

Mr. Lister added that a scheme allowing regular campers, before the 1986 National Parks Act came into force, to reserve their campsites would continue.

He added the new tagging and deposit scheme would not be used for the Cup Match holiday and all sites outside the three main campsites would be on a "first come, first served'' basis.

Cup Match campers can erect tents on July 27, but cannot occupy them until the following day and all sites must be clear by August 2.

Mr. Lister warned: "Anyone found in contravention of this relaxed policy will have their tents, etc. confiscated by the Parks Department.'' He added Rangers will be on Cup Match duty until 10 p.m. and parks would be opened on July 28 until 9.30 p.m. But Mr. Lister said all vehicles would have to be off the sites by that time to allow Rangers to close up gates.
