Quennel V. Robinson, 21, of Scott's Hill, Sandys, was found guilty in Magistrates' Court of stealing a shirt, Nike sneakers and two compact discs from fellow officer Ricardo Small at the Police Barracks on August 23 1995.

Magistrate Edward King told Robinson that he rejected his claim that he did not know the items were stolen.

He said there was a "mass of inconsistent statements made...'' by Robinson in connection with the crime.

When asked if he had anything to say before sentencing, Robinson said: "I'm sorry for any confusion caused by the whole situation.'' He added that he planned to go away to school in August.

To which Mr. King replied: "You hope.'' However, Mr. King told Robinson: "I'm going to give you a chance sir...'', before handing down a three-month prison sentence suspended for two years.

"You were in a position of public trust...'' Mr. King added. "Go and walk the narrow path because if you slip, you will slip westward.''
