A sexual offender who molested a woman days after his last prison release yesterday threatened a magistrate.

"You want to see me behind bars all the time,'' Gary Wendell (aka Marcello) Jones told Senior Magistrate Will Francis yesterday.

"I'm going to fix your f***ing a** later on,'' he added.

Jones, of Ewing Street, Pembroke, made the outburst moments after Mr. Francis decided the lower court's sentencing powers were insufficient to deal with the repeat offender.

Earlier junior Crown counsel Veronica Gordon told Magistrates' Court that Jones' latest assault took place around 1 p.m. on January 11.

The 49-year-old first stared at a woman as she prepared to mount her parked cycle on Front Street, Hamilton, Ms Gordon explained.

He then approached the woman and asked for directions.

But the woman -- who reportedly had been made uneasy by Jones' actions -- pointed him in the direction of the Hamilton Police Station.

Jones travelled a few feet toward the station, but then returned and reached under his victim's rain jacket and grabbed her buttock, said Ms Gordon.

He then ran away after the woman screamed.

Police arrested Jones a few days later based on a description supplied by the complainant.

He reportedly admitted committing the offence, but told officers he was drunk at the time.

He also said he had become excited by seeing the woman in tights and apologised for his actions.

And yesterday his mother told the magistrate a mixture of medication and alcohol had created a dangerous combination.

But Jones became increasingly angry when Mr. Francis said his "many similar offences'' rendered the matter "far too serious to sentence'' in the lower court.

"I could have done something worse than that if I was a lot sillier,'' he said. "This is a misdemeanour. Why can't I be fined? If I was white, I would get a fine.'' Mr. Francis -- who will send the matter to the Supreme Court for sentencing -- eventually ordered Police officers to remove Jones from the courtroom.

Jones was last sentenced to three years in prison in July, 1997 for a similar offence.
