`Explosion' costs man $500 fine
in a public place and destroying Government property.
Dion Burgess, of Khyber Pass, pleaded guilty to both charges in Magistrates' Court.
Burgess, who was released from prison last Thursday, repeatedly cursed at Police as they approached him on Somerset Road last Friday, Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said.
As Police attempted to drive away Burgess stood in front of the car and cursed them again. He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station.
Insp. Duffy said around 1.15 a.m. the next day Burgess smashed the light covering in his cell, causing about $60 worth of damage.
Burgess, who has a history of similar offences, told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis he had an argument with his girlfriend and "I guess I exploded''.
Mr. Francis fined Burgess $250 on each count.
