yesterday morning after a passing freighter raced to their rescue.

Mr. and Mrs. David Rhind and their 22-month-old baby Sean were on board their 35-foot cutter Mystic Lady 150 miles southwest off the Island when the vessel was holed.

The Cypriot-registered bulk carrier Maria Satinas happened to see an emergency flare the family sent out at about 1 a.m. and promptly diverted and reached the yacht within an hour.

A Harbour Radio spokesman said yesterday the Rhinds, who set sail from the Island on Saturday and were headed for the Bahamas, were uninjured.

The Maria Satinas is headed for Three Rivers in Quebec, Canada and is expected to arrive there on Friday night.

Mr. Rhind has family in Canada and also has a brother living here.

Mr. Jack Rhind said yesterday the US Coast Guard informed him the family was okay and that the yacht had struck something which tore a hole in it.

The Harbour Radio spokesman said he did not know what Mystic Lady hit.

Mr. Rhind and his wife Susan have been living onboard Mystic Lady , docked alongside Hunters Point in St. George's, for the past few months.

He is an entertainer who was granted Bermuda status a number of years ago after marrying his Bermudian wife.

It is not the first time Harbour Radio has heard from the Rhinds.

Two months ago when the couple and their baby were returning to Bermuda from the Caribbean they ran into difficulty and had to be towed in.

The spokesman said then they were "basically weary and very disorientated'' from a rough week of sailing. Only the three of them were on board.

They alerted Harbour Radio about 60 miles west of the Island and a US military ship diverted to tow them in.

Efforts to reach the couple last night were unsuccessful.
