Winterhaven Farmhouse at the junction of Knapton Hill and Harrington Sound roads is being offered on a 21-year lease.

The Bermuda National Trust has handed back control of the house to the Works and Engineering Ministry and will advise Government on satisfactory preservation methods.

An advertisement placed in The Royal Gazette calls for "expressions of interest'' to be submitted by 3 p.m. on July 15.

Works and Engineering Minister Alex Scott said yesterday the building has been vacant for "quite some time'' and required some renovation.

"Were seeing if anyone will express interest in the property in the appropriate manner,'' Mr. Scott said. "It's a historic property in that its architectural character can't be changed.'' Farmland to the rear of the building is on a separate lease and is not part of the offer.

Winterhaven has two to three bedrooms and a two-storey addition and was built sometime during the first half of the 1700s.

It was restored by the National Trust in the 1970s.
