Bissoonduthsing Ramchurn was found guilty last month of the unlawful killing of Catrin Shaefer in St. George's last year.

He was warned by the trial Judge Philip Storr that a jail term was likely at the sentencing which was due to be held yesterday but was changed to a mention session because the social inquiry report is not ready. Sentencing will now be held on April 20 because defence lawyer Phil Perinchief will be off the island for a spell and the court is then booked up with other cases.

Speaking from his home in Germany Ms Schaefer's father, Ludwig, said: "For me, and especially my wife, this is unbelievable -- we just can't understand it.

"All the points had been clarified and we really expected a final solution to all this today. I am very sorry about this -- to have to now wait until April.

It's just unbelievable.''
