Quinnel Smith, 28, pleaded guilty the following morning and Tillman Darrell, 34, was found guilty after a trial on Friday morning. Magistrate Edward King handed out both sentences.

The men were arrested at the scene after Smith attacked Darrell with a helmet, and one Police officer saw Darrell attempt to throw a punch as other officers put Smith into custody.

Crown counsel Wayne Caines told the court that Smith was involved in an "altercation'' inside the club which was continuing in the street when Police arrived at 8.30 p.m.

Police found a crowd outside and officers observed Smith strike Darrell with a crash helmet. Darrell also took "evasive action''.

Duty counsel Veronica Daley told Mr. King that Smith was sorry for his actions, "would not participate in these sort of activities in the future'', and asked for leniency.

"Mr. Smith, I have heard the summary of evidence and I take into consideration your guilty plea and I impose no greater penalty than a conditional discharge for six months,'' Mr. King told Smith.

But he asked Darrell twice if he had been involved in a fight outside the club and both times was told "no''.

He repeatedly suggested to Darrell to ask for legal advice from lawyer Elizabeth Christopher and Mrs. Daley "pro bono'' or for free.

Darrell was also ordered held by Police until $450 in outstanding traffic fines is paid or spend the next 56 days in prison.

Before Darrell was escorted from the courtroom Mr. King said: "Out of abundance of caution, I think you (his clerk) should ask for a production order (from HM Prisons) for Darrell for tomorrow morning.'' It is understood the fines were paid before that became necessary.
