Fined for stealing cellular phone

Shawn Eve, 17, of Devon Springs, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to stealing the phone on May 18 and using the telephone up until May 24.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said Eve went to a friend's house on May 18 and stole the telephone from her father.
The father called Eve and asked him to return the telephone. But Eve never complied.
Sgt. Grant said Police found Eve on June 5 and he admitted to stealing the telephone. He added that Eve was helpful in returning the stolen property to Police.
Eve admitted to making local calls on the telephone, but denied ever using the telephone for overseas calls.
Sgt. Grant said 57 outgoing calls were made, and seven incoming calls were recorded during the time Eve had the telephone.
Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp ordered Eve to pay $150 for stealing the telephone and $100 for making the telephone calls.
The telephone bill amounted to $31.45 which was ordered to be taken out of his $250 fine.
