The Bermuda Fire Service was called to the gas station at Collector's Hill shortly before 4.30 p.m., a spokesman said. An underground tank had been overfilled and an estimated 15 to 20 gallons of gas had spilled and run across the road.

Sand was put on the gas and Esso officials arrived with absorbent pads to soak up the fuel, said the spokesman. A meter was used to determine there was no risk of explosion, and the road was reopened.

Until then, vehicles were diverted up Devon Heights Road for about 30 minutes.

The Environment Ministry was notified.

Earlier yesterday, shortly before 2.30 p.m., the Fire Service was called to Happy Dale Road off Parsons Road in Devonshire after liquefied petroleum gas leaked from the base of a cylinder.

The cylinder was disconnected and moved to a safe area, the spokesman said.

The leak was stopped and the cylinder was taken away by the gas company.

FALSE ACCUSATIONS PUT MAN IN PRISON CTS False accusations put man in prison A man who falsely accused another man of beating and robbing him was sentenced to three months in prison in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Ricardo Dean Tucker, 31, of Barclay Road, Pembroke, admitted to Police he "just wanted the man taken off the street for the night,'' said prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant. Police held the wrongly accused man for almost 10 hours for questioning until Tucker admitted he had lied.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. William Francis also sentenced Tucker to a concurrent 12-month prison sentence for breaking, entering and theft the same day. Tucker pleaded guilty to both charges.

Tucker stole a television and video cassette recorder valued at $1,694 from a Warwick apartment on May 13 after attending a party at the residence the previous evening. He used a ladder to scale the second storey building and entered through a bedroom window. Police traced finger prints found in the room to the defendant who admitted he had called a taxi from the apartment and then sold the stolen goods for $300. He spent the money on liquor, marijuana and cocaine.

SANDYS MAN DENIES ASSAULT CHARGE CTS Sandys man denies assault charge A 31-year-old Sandys man yesterday pleaded not guilty in Magistrates' Court to inflicting grevious bodily harm on a woman.

The incident allegedly took place in Warwick on Saturday.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. William Francis ordered a trial date for Errol Thomas and set bail at $1,000 with a like surety. And he added Thomas was not to have any further contact with the complainant until the trial.

Mr. Francis consented to a request by Duty Counsel Mrs. Patricia Harvey that Thomas be allowed to contact his children living with the woman through a third party.
