firefighters called to a car fire were driven away by onlookers throwing objects.

Police were called to the scene at 6 p.m. on Friday and found a a stationary green Honda hatchback in the middle of the road with fire and smoke damage to the interior.

The fire had been extinguished prior to the arrival of the Bermuda Fire Service who left shortly after being pelted by objects thrown by the onlookers.

Police assistance was called and the situation was calmed.

It appears a 34-year old Pembroke man was driving the car when he was attacked by a man known to him, while another man also known to him allegedly set the car on fire.

The victim was beaten and kicked in the face before being able to run off. He was later taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and treated for abrasions and swelling to his face.
