National Fisherman, circulating throughout the US and Canada, showed 12 stamps from fishing nations on its front cover last month.

The Bermuda stamp shown was part of the May 21, 1981, Heritage Month issue from the Bermuda Philatelic Bureau.

It shows a Bermuda fisherman cutting up fish in St. George's Harbour while another boat comes in with its catch.

That series of stamps included views of traditional Bermudian life including stone-cutting, onion shipping on Front Street and privateering.

National Fisherman stated: "For many nations, commercial fishing is of primary importance to their economies.

"Some of these countries have expressed that connection by issuing commemorative postage stamps illustrating either current or historical fishing methods.'' Other countries represented in the issue were Denmark, Trinidad and Tobago, Tristan da Cunha, the Maldives, Czechoslovakia and the United Kingdom.

The stamps are from the collection of philatelist Mr. Raymond Schuessler.
