Harbour Radio received a report from a man on Cooks Hill in Somerset close to 8 p.m. that a flare had been set off by someone in a boat in the Great Sound near Cavello Bay.
Eyewitnesses saw the boat speed away toward Hamilton. The flare landed on the Railway Trail near Cooks Hill and started a small brush fire which residents extinguished.
At 9.25 p.m., Harbour Radio received a call from a boat in Paradise Lake of a flare that went off in the Riddell's Bay area.
After a man at Cedar Hill in Warwick had to extinguish it, it was determined it had been set off from land.
