Marine Police officers were called out after people reported seeing the flare in the Pembroke/Devonshire area at about 8 p.m.

"It turned out to be a hoax. This type of thing has been happening quite frequently, and causes a big drain on the resources of emergency services,'' said a Harbour Radio spokesman.
