Thursday night ... but the mysterious green light turned out to be a kite.

Harbour Radio received a call about the "UFO'' at about 8 p.m., a spokesman said.

It turned out someone in the harbour area was flying a kite. Attached to it was a fluorescent tube commonly used by night workers for self-illumination.

The kite "looked like it was being flown from a research ship'' berthed in St. George's, the spokesman said.

But as the kite zigged and zagged across the sky, the string and the kite itself were not visible, only the green light.
