Premier Pamela Gordon said Mr. Jackson was a fine example of somebody who was committed to serving his Country.

Describing Mr. Jackson as "a gentleman and a scholar'', Opposition Leader Jennifer Smith said: "He gave great service to this country and brought to the post a dignity and gentleness and sense of fairness. He will be a great loss.'' Tourism Minister David Dodwell agreed Mr. Jackson had served his country with dignity while Finance Minister Grant Gibbons , who worked with Mr. Jackson in the Senate, said he was a real role model for young Bermudians.

Another former Senator, Shadow Home Affairs Minister Alex Scott , a relative of Mr. Jackson, recalled: "We gave him a rough time in the Senate but even as a youngster he pointed me in the right direction.'' Paula Cox (PLP) said: "He has always spoken to me in a pleasant and gentle way and it shows that, although we may be on opposite sides, there doesn't have to be this adversarial, confrontational style.'' Members also paid their respects to Adolph Luttke, retiring general manager of pharmaceutical giant Corange Ltd, who leaves the Island shortly.

Home Affairs Minister Quinton Edness thanked Mr. Luttke for his contribution to the Island.

"He certainly got to know Bermuda and Bermudians very well and not only contributed to the growth in our international business but he also participated in social activities,'' he said.
