A story in Saturday's Report from the House of Assembly incorrectly stated that Tourism Minister David Allen claimed that then-Tourism Minister C.V.

(Jim) Woolridge once sent his daughter on an overseas trip when Mr. Woolridge could not attend. The story should have said Mr. Allen claimed that Mr.

Woolridge sent his sister.

Shadow Tourism Minister David Dodwell said Government was proving it could no longer be trusted.

He was speaking after Works and Engineering Minister Alex Scott again denied misleading the House over the importation of large cars, backbencher Arthur Pitcher refused to speak about his company's allegedly dangerous removal of asbestos from Southside and Health Minister Nelson Bascome refused to hold an inquiry into the demolition.

Mr. Dodwell said: "If there is one big issue we are focusing on it is integrity, truth and trust.

"The question we should be asking is `can we trust them?' and the answer coming from this side is `no you can't trust the Government of the day'.'' People were asking questions about why it was necessary for four Ministers to go on a free cruise from Philadelphia and the issue of Ministers being given $150 a day spending money, he said.

"The public are saying `what about the people's money being spent?' and trust is the key. I want to keep hammering that home and people are starting to say we can't trust them.

"It is not their fault, the fault is the 26-14 majority. I wish Dame Lois Browne-Evans was here because I am going to use the A word, the word that can only be used about white people, that's arrogance.

"Arrogance is not a white or a black word, it's straight out of the dictionary and it applies. We have moved on from a Government in waiting to a Government in hiding. Now one more stop to a Government lacking in integrity.'' Tourism Minister David Allen hit back saying he was going to use the H word, hypocrisy.

Mr. Allen said he did not take a single dollar of tax-payers' money on the cruise and had only used his daily allowance once, on a trip to the British Labour Party conference.

He said the Philadelphia trip was a "huge plus'' for Bermuda in terms of publicity in the city and on ABC television.

Claiming the UBP were hypocritical, he claimed that when he was a Shadow Minister, Sir John Swan, Sir Jack Sharpe, C.V. (Jim) Woolridge and others took similar trips. On one occasion, Mr. Woolridge sent his daughter along because he could not make it, he said.

He claimed when Mr. Dodwell was Tourism Minister, he diverted to his hotel in Nevis when he was at a conference on Government business in Cancun.

"I had people approach me and say they were concerned about why the Minister was there,'' said Mr. Allen.

Mr. Dodwell reacted angrily, saying he paid for the trip to Nevis out of his own pocket, and he demanded Mr. Allen withdraw the allegation or name the sources.

He said Mr. Allen could not prove his allegations and was attacking his professional integrity.

But Mr. Allen said he had his facts and accused Mr. Dodwell of being away from Bermuda for well over six weeks.

Mr. Allen said: "This after he said the Government must not be away from the Island. He was away for nearly two months.

Mr. Allen said he had sat on the information for at least three years but had been spurred into using it after hearing the UBP go on about Ministers' foreign travel.
